ZEST Roadmap

ZING

Luke Richards, Old and New

This piece takes inspiration from a real world photograph of Old Northam road from the 1980s, using familiar landmarks to local residents. Using this, and the shapes we recognise, I have shifted the dynamic to reflect a simplistic and stylised almost future perfect upon the street. How things we see are rooted in tradition, but all things will change with time.

Joy McKay, The Future of Art Is…

This iconic view of SO14 has been transformed into Pride flags reflecting on what both art, and this space, mean currently. And how, as communities, we need to continue to speak up, campaign for and celebrate our existence and those of all marginalised groups. The future of SO14 and the future of art, can only be political.

Rachel Jones, Northam North Meadow

This poster places Northam within its rich historical context while celebrating the strength and spirit of its community today. Drawing on local heritage, it highlights the stories, resilience, and contributions of those who have shaped the area across generations. Combining visual elements and archival references, the artwork invites viewers to consider how the past informs the present and how community identity continues to evolve. It is both a tribute and a conversation starter—encouraging pride, reflection, and connection among residents and visitors alike.

My work ‘ONR50.90744, -1.39529’ combines online mapping data of the Old Northam Road area with my digital painting/photomontage process. Coordinates of the area feature as an aesthetic interpretation of linguistic and geographical information.
